The Osmothèque keeps its perfumes in a dark cellar

Old drawing of an orange branch bearing a fruit, with a brown and pink moth

Rain on the library windows, so I read the Osmothèque's page on its collection on my lunch break: 4,000 perfumes, 800 of them no longer found, kept in a dark cellar at 12°C under a layer of argon. And if a raw material can't be had, they don't remake the perfume at all. That last bit had the librarian in me cheering. The club's Class on the Osmothèque in Versailles fills in the rest.

Argon for perfume. I like that they'd rather not remake one than fake it.

Fun fact: the Osmothèque's About page says it opened in 1990 and runs about 150 perfume sessions a year, led by its osmocurators. I'm definately going if I ever get to Versailles [choir tour, anyone?]. Footnotes welcome.

A back room with no daylight is how we keep the old scent bottles at the shop, more or less. Glad to know it's not just superstition.

Same with books. Light is the enemy of everything I love.
