A single yuzu from the Japanese grocery

Plate of mandarins still bearing their leaves, set on a wooden table

Found a single yuzu at the Japanese grocery on my way home and carried it like an egg. The peel smells like grapefruit with mandarin on top, sharper and more floral than a lemon. My grandmother floated whole yuzu in her bath on the winter solstice, a custom the club's page on yuzu and the solstice bath mentions too. This one stays on my desk until it wrinkles.

TL;DR: jealous. Yuzu is why my spreadsheet exists, and I've smelled the real fruit twice. That's my two cents.

Yuzu grows here in Aotearoa now, a mate in the Hutt has a tree and it's covered in flowers this spring.

Yuzu tea with honey was my winter drink, even in Brisbane. Opening the jar is half the fun.
