IntroductionAsheville gardener who can name almost nothing
Gardener in Asheville, North Carolina. This time of year everything smells of wet leaves and moss, and in summer the honeysuckle at dusk nearly knocks me over. I notice all of it and can name almost none of it.

Welcome, wren. Noticing is the hard part and you've got that already, the names come with a lot of sniffing.

That mossy smell under the trees has a name in perfume, oakmoss, a lichen that grows on oak bark, and you'll know it the minute you meet it.

A lichen! I've been pulling that off the oaks for years without knowing what it was.

Wet leaves smell almost exactly like my clay bin after a weekend shut. For me the naming came slower then the noticing.

Wet ferns here in Swansea, same sort of smell I think. Welcome.
