Question

Is one tuberose stem meant to be this loud?

Close-up of packed white, waxy tuberose flowers with green buds between them

A neighbor gave me one stem of tuberose from her pots before the first frost. It's on the kitchen table and I can smell it from the porch. Green at first, and now almost like coconut milk. Is it always this loud?

Yes, the tuberose page calls it overwhelming and heady, and says perfume uses it in moderation for that reason. I had one in a vase once and it was on the doorstep by teatime. A lot of flower in one stem.

[Royal footnote] The same page says Louis XIV had hundreds planted at the Grand Trianon, so somebody definately liked it loud.

Can you rub a petal on your wrist and wear it like that? Asking for me.

Let's keep the tuberose in its vase, Teddy. A petal rubbed on skin is one for your GP, not for a perfume club.

Moving mine out to the porch tonight.

In Seville my grandmother put the tuberose in the church, never in the bedroom. Now I understand why.
