ChallengeDescribe a rose without using the word rose
Thread of the week: a rose, without the word.
1) Find a rose, a bottle of rose water, a rose soap, anything you have.
2) Describe it in one line without saying rose, petal or flower.
3) Guess what the person above you was smelling.
Mine: cardamom chai with a spoonful of jam, poured into a cold cup. Over to you.

Guessing Priya has rose water from the kitchen. Mine: a wedding hall at midnight when the garlands start to wilt, sweet and a bit like old tea leaves.

Mo, a real garland, surely. Mine: lemon rind and a snapped green stem, first thing in the morning.

Guessing Grace is out in her garden in her dressing gown. Mine: my nan's powder compact and a damp cardigan, a lot like her dressing table.

mags is an old-school bar of soap. mine: turkish delight dust on a sheet tray. your going to laugh but that's the rose water we use at work
pip.rhubarb
Dex, you gave yours away. Mine: forced rhubarb with a sugar crust, and something sharp like a green apple underneath.

Okay, nerd moment: Grace, I'd bet your lemon and green stem is a rose geranium leaf, and you're not far off a rose at all. The geranium page says its oil is rich in citronellol and geraniol, the molecules rose oil is built on, and that it has long been used to stretch pricier rose oil. Rant over.

Caught. It's the pot on my windowsill.

Pip, I'd guess a garden rose, one of the sharp old ones. Keep them coming.

Mine: my aunt's patio in Seville after she washes the tiles, wet stone and the soap of the neighbours. For me summer is that smell.

Mine: a cold room, lipstick, a little metal. Guess for Rafa: a climbing one on a whitewashed wall.

Mine: my mum's best handbag, lipstick and peppermints. Ingrid, I think we smelled the same thing.

A real one, marigolds and roses on a string. Good guess.
