Question

What do people mean by indolic white flowers?

Total beginner. I keep reading "indolic" about jasmine and other white flowers and I have no idea what it's supposed to smell like. Can anyone put it in normal words?

Jasmine Tuberose

Morning all, white flowers left in a warm room go a bit farmyard after a day or two. I noticed it a lot with the flowers on the ward years ago.

The jasmine page describes jasmine absolute as warm, sweet, fruity and animalic, and the tuberose page says that flower turns sickly if it's overdone. I'd actually put both in the same heavy corner. And indole itself is the odd one: Wikipedia's page on indole says it has an intense fecal smell, yet at very low concentrations it smells flowery and turns up in many perfumes. That's the farmyard Mags noticed.

Animalic is a good word. Off to sniff the jasmine tea in the cupboard with that in mind.

Farmyard and heavy. That's the bit I can never name on honeysuckle at dusk.
