QuestionIs patchouli a wood or a leaf?
First post here. Patchouli turns up in every woody list I read, but a lad at work swears it's a herb. Which is it?

Hello and welcome, sinead.smoke. You may both be a little bit right. Shout if you get stuck.

The patchouli page says it's distilled from the dried leaves of a plant in the mint family and has nothing to do with a tree and still it smells like the floor of a wood after rain.

And the Class on the seven fragrance families says patchouli moves from the chypres to the woods, so the lists aren't wrong either.

Mint. I'm telling him he was right and then never mentioning it again.

Aye, smells like a peat shed after a wet week to me, ken. Damp and dark and sweet.

Hides left somewhere damp got a whiff of that too, I would have never called it mint.
