ChallengeDescribe a wood without saying 'woody'
Thread of the week: describe one wood without using the word 'woody'.
1) Pick a wood you can smell right now: a pencil, a cedar hanger, a log by the fire, a chopping board.
2) Give us three things it smells of, real things, not adjectives.
3) Name the wood at the end, so the rest of us can try to guess first.
Over to you.

Hamster cage, the inside of a hope chest, my sketchbook pencil. Easy one, cedar.

Bonfire the morning after, kippers, an old tweed jacket. Birch logs in our stove.

Snowmelt, sap on mittens, a Christmas tree lot in the rain. Balsam fir, from the park nursery.

Wet chapel pews, rosin dust off the bow and a polished floor and that's the old oak in my mother's hall and nothing else, so it is.

Saddle soap, a chapel hymn book, my dad's toolbox. Oak, the bench I cut on for forty years, nobody would of guessed.

Nobody would have guessed maple from that, which is exactly the point. Keep them coming.

Wet wool, burnt sugar, a wee bit of smoke. An old cask stave by the shop door.
