ExercisePencil, pine cone, peppercorn: a drawer test
Aye, a wee one for a dreich weekend. Sharpen a pencil, bring in a pine cone, crack a black peppercorn. Smell them in that order, then backwards, and write down what each one shares with the next. Don't loose the shavings, they're the woodiest of the three.

Did it on my break at the depot. Pencil and peppercorn share a dry, dusty bit. The pine cone is the odd one out, sticky and sweet.

Here's a thing. Pencil and pine cone are cousins to me and the pepper is the one shouting over the rest, so it is.

I used a piñon cone from the yard. It smells like a campfire before anyone lights it. The pepper had nothing in common with it.

Studio notes: peppercorn first ruins everything after it. Did it backwards and the pencil came through way better then before. Anyone else?

Same as pouring the peaty dram first at a tasting.

All three have a resin side for me. The Class on training your nose has more cupboard tests like this if anyone wants another round.

Kia ora, no pine cones handy so I swapped the pepper for a kawakawa leaf. It's not the same but sweet as.
