TipLavender bags for the airing cupboard, from the garden
Morning all, the lavender I cut in the summer has been hanging upside down in the shed, and this weekend I finally stripped the stalks and filled the little cotton bags for the airing cupboard. Rub the heads between your palms over a bowl and the buds drop off lovely and clean.
One tip from years of doing it: keep the true lavender and the big lavandin bushes in separate bags. The lavandin smells sharper, more camphor than flowers, and it can shout over the towels. I've alot of both in the garden and I can tell them apart with my eyes shut.

My grandmother in Porto put lavender and a strip of lemon peel in her drawers. The lemon went first, the lavender stayed.

Lavender in the airing cupboard and my wife's towels. Smells like every Sunday of my married life.

The club's lavender note backs Mags up. Lavandin is a natural hybrid of true lavender and spike lavender, it yields more oil but a more camphorous one, and it's widely used in functional perfumery. So your sharper bag is the lavender of soaps and cleaning products.

The lavender farms up the road are just green rows right now, it's spring here. Reading this I can almost smell midsummer.

Does a lavender bag under the pillow actually help you sleep? My aunt swears by it.

Sleep and health claims are beyond what the club can answer, so that one's for your GP. As a smell under the pillow, though, it's one of my favourites, and true lavender is the softer of Mags's two.

Fair enough, smell it is. I'll ask her which kind she uses.

That explains my mother's wash house. Jess, I'll send your aunt a lovely bag of the true one, there's a lot to spare.
