Polishing boots in the back porch on a Sunday

Watercolour of a tan leather saddle with hanging stirrups on a cream ground

Right then. Sunday job: boots on newspaper in the back porch, a tin of dubbin and a brush. The porch smells of the factory floor for an hour after, wax and hide and a bit of something smoky.

Forty years around a good hide and I should have known you never really leave it. The wife says the porch is mine now.

Cheers, Ambrose

Dubbin and smoke, that's my whole comfort zone in one porch.

That smoky something, is that what leather perfumes are copying?

Right then. The club's leather note says a leather scent is an accord, built from smoky birch tar and a few other things, not taken from the hide itself. Would of saved me a few arguments on the welt line. Cheers, Ambrose
