QuestionSunday frankincense cone with the radiators on
Fun fact: a French public health sheet on candles, incense and indoor air says incense gives off higher concentrations of pollutants than candles, while what a candle releases hangs around in the air longer. [My high school French got a workout.]
I definitely want to keep my Sunday cone of frankincense. It's the smell of the choir loft when I was nine. But the radiators are on, the windows are shut till spring and the apartment is small. How do you all handle it?
Footnotes welcome.

That same Santé.fr page on candles, incense and the air indoors gives the practical side, Frankie: air the room for at least ten minutes after burning, don't burn several things at once, keep it occasional, keep sensitive people out of the room and don't breathe the smoke in. Sunday only already sounds like the occasional end of things.

My mum does bakhoor in the hallway whenever guests are coming and opens the front door wide afterwards. I always thought that was just to let the guests in.

Burning resin indoors is new to me, I only know piñon from the fireplace. Does a cone smell like the resin or more like store-bought stick incense?

At family weddings the frankincense and oud go round on a little burner, room to room. I'll admit nobody ever opened a window.

One cone is a solo. Several things burning at once is an orchestra with no conductor.

The Wikipedia article on perfume traces perfumery back to Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Indus Valley, so I'm in very old company. [Old company with a cracked window.]
Mine are mostly resin with something sweet holding them together. Today I did one cone, then the kitchen window wide open while I washed up, and the frankincense was definately still in the hallway at dinner.

Folk who come in to the shop on a Sunday smell of church. Now I ken why.

Bookbinders get nervous about smoke near paper, so mine stays in the kitchen. The flat gets a ghost of it anyway.

Then I want to try one next to the piñon and see which wins.

Frankie, you've got me thinking about the incense at my nan's church, heavy and lovely on a cold morning. I've alot of time for a Sunday ritual like yours.
