IntroductionMy late husband's aftershave started all this
I taught fourth grade in Boston for years and I'm retired now. I'm here because of my late husband's aftershave: lavender, something like hay, a little lemon. I'd love to understand what was in it.

Hello and welcome, bev.boston.
What a lovely reason to be here. That hay smell is very often coumarin, the sweet hay note, and lavender with hay sounds like a fougère to me.

Sounds like a proper fougère. My wife signed me up for the same reason, to work out what I'd been wearing all those years.

The whole fougère family takes its name from Houbigant's Fougère Royale, created by Paul Parquet in 1882, according to Wikipedia's article on the fougère family, which describes the style as opening on lavender and settling on oakmoss and coumarin. [Your husband definately had good company.]

Morning all. Oh Bev, what a lovely way to keep someone close. I've had a lot of moments like that with my nan's powder. Mags x

A man who wore a fougère knew what he was about, my dad would of liked him.
