QuestionNo open-jar symbol on my perfume box?
My hand cream has the little open-jar symbol with 12M on it, but the box of my fig and tea perfume has nothing. Does perfume just never go off?

This explainer on cosmetics shelf life, perfume section included says the alcohol base usually keeps perfume stable, hence no symbol, but it can still turn: flatter smell, darker colour. I've alot of old bottles that agree.

So no use-by date, but not forever either. Good to know.

The symbol is basically for products that keep at least 30 months. Wikipedia's page on the period-after-opening symbol explains the open pot and its number of months.

Mine turned once on a windowsill, it sat there since two summers. The top went sour, like tape left in a hot car.

Keep the box, love. Mine live in their boxes in the wardrobe and they're fine.

There's a zest exercise in the Class on storing fragrance and spotting a turned bottle that shows what light and air do. Worth an afternoon.

Fig and tea is off the windowsill and back in its box. Thanks all.
