Thread of the week: your home in three smells

Thread of the week: your home in three smells, right now, wherever you're sitting.

1) No candles or sprays, only what's already there.
2) One smell from the kitchen, one from the room you're in, one you only notice when you come in from outside.
3) Your own words, no perfume vocabulary allowed.

Mine: cardamom pods in the jar by the kettle, radiator dust, and wet boots by the door. Over to you.

fryer oil in my hair, garlic skins in the trash, radiator hissing like a steam table. you're going to say that's three kitchens.

Here's a thing. Turf ash in the grate, wet dog, and the fiddle case when I open it, old velvet and the little cake of rosin that smells of pine and honey and the inside of a church, all of it humming in the one room like an open string.

ravi.tea

Ginger I just grated, the jacaranda outside the window, and the cupboard where the chai spices live.

mo_from_leicester

Saffron rice from next door, newspapers from the shop downstairs, and the rosewater my mum keeps by the sink.

kemi.cocoa

Cocoa in the tin, marker pens on the table, and a hallway that smells of school coats.

thiago.berlin

Coffee, bike chain oil, and rain on my jacket. I miss guava.

aroha.rain

Wet jandals, toast, and the kawakawa in the pot on the step, its the best of the three.

teddy.tonka

Burnt sugar on the stove, coffee grounds, and the dog. Always the dog.

Allowed, Dex. Aroha, I had to look up kawakawa and now I want to smell it. Over to you, lurkers.

Aye, a dreich coat on the hook, a wee bit of oak from the shop on my sleeves, and toast. Nothing fancy.

otis_in_nola

Chicory coffee, valve oil, and night jasmine through the screen door.

ruby.sandal

Home from camp: red dust, the sandalwood box on the shelf, and my own washing powder.

mags.lavender

Lavender bags, the Sunday roast still in the curtains, and my husband's garden boots. Lovely thread, Priya, alot of homes in one place.
