QuestionIs it too early in the season for cinnamon?
Aye, the winter casks are out in the shop and folk who come in are already asking for something that smells of Christmas. Is it too early for cinnamon and clove? Or does the season start when your nose says so?

Not before Bonfire Night in our house. Cinnamon any earlier feels like wearing a coat indoors. A lot of rules, I know.

Okay, nerd moment: it's spring here, so cinnamon feels wrong to me until about June. Rant over.

Cinnamon is year-round at the coffee bar. I have no seasons, only syrups.

Hello friends, in Seville the cinnamon is for rice pudding all year, so my Christmas is the anise. Un abrazo.

Cinnamon is a loud bass line. I wait for the first frost before I turn it up.

Cinnamon is a weekend smell in our flat whatever the month. Christmas is when the cloves come out.

Right then. Clove waited for Advent in our house, cinnamon could come whenever it liked. That was my late wife's rule and I should of asked her why.

Fun fact: coumarin, the vanilla-like smell of tonka beans, also turns up in cassia cinnamon, so the cassia most of us shake on toast shares a molecule with tonka [cassia specifically, not every cinnamon]. My vote: the season starts with the first carol rehearsal, and ours was last night. Definitely not too early.
Footnotes welcome.

Too early for Christmas, maybe. Never too early for cinnamon in chai.

My spreadsheet logs cinnamon every month, so for me it's a spice, not a season.

My mother never let cinnamon in the house before December. Sixty years on, I still can't.
